There isn’t a time I love sunshine more than spring time. The bright sun warming your face after so many months of dreary, coldness. And this year spring came a little bit early, and I’m loving it! Some of the flowers might be cold on these few frosty night, though. With each new season, comes a new wardrobe for portraits. Today I’m going to give you some tips of what to wear for spring portraits.
Unlike fall where we favor muted and neutral colors, nothing says spring like a lot of color and floral patterns. Greens, pinks, purples, and yellows are all great colors that coordinate with outdoor scenery. And men don’t need to fear because they look great in those colors, too. The advice I always give to my client is to pick 1-3 main coordinating colors and have everyone in the family wear at least one of those colors. This is also a great way to mix patterns (yes, you can wear plaid with other patterns!) with each member of the family.
Spring portraits are a great time to choose a lighter fabric for you family. Out with corduroy and denim and in with cotton, linen or knits. You and the girls can wear a nice gauzy dress and the boys can wear khakis and button downs or polos. You can change it up for each person, too! Having different fabrics and texture can create extra intrigue images.
Don’t forget that it can get a little cool during spring, so its great to add some layers to you outfit. Not only do they keep you warm, but layers are also a great way to add some extra style. Scarves, shawls, or cardigans can add intrigue and can be removed to totally change up each outfit.
Shoes during spring can be a little tricky because the ground can be muddy, but you still want to look cute. If you are going for a casual look rain boots are super cute. If you would like to wear something more dressy my tip is to bring extra shoes if your worried about mud or soft ground. And my number one rule: no all white shoes! I know it can be tempting because you just bought those for you kids for the Easter service, but don’t. White can be very distracting which will take away from your gorgeous smiles.
Whatever you choose to wear, you cannot go wrong if you bring lots of giggles and smiles. If you haven’t had portraits done recently (or even if you have) and would like to book just you this contact form, or you can email me!
