Did you know that senior pictures are not a thing in some parts of the country? That’s right, some people don’t even know the best way to commemorate the most important year of a young life is through photographs. Thank goodness we live in the south where we understand this right of passage. Here, we celebrate every milestones with a portrait session and a special meal from birth to graduation.
And children grow up so quickly. One minute they are taking their first steps and the next they are walking to get their diploma. Photographs are a great way to stop time. That one moment captured forever. The way the corners of his mouth turn up when he is shyly laughing, or the toothy grin she has when she thinks something is really funny. These stolen moments that truly show their personality.
I’m always amazed at the images that are my client’s favorites. Its never the full faced, smiley, traditional portraits or the artsy, epic landscapes that I love. No. Its the smirk, or the shy laugh, or the thoughtful stare that parents love. The moments that don’t come out at first, but take time to bring out. She needs to feel comfortable with me and to trust me. This is why consultations are so important to me. It’s a chance for me to meet and get to know my client, to understand your needs, your style and what you want to get out of the session, but its also a great time for my client to get to know me and feel comfortable with me before the camera is out. It makes her senior pictures personalized to her, and I can truly bring out her personality.
These image are from Claire’s session, she is getting ready to start her senior year in Oldham County. We instantly bonded over art and marching band. Claire plays the trumpet, which is pretty amazing to this old band nerd! Let me tell you, we were pretty concerned about the weather this day! The forecast called for rain all day. But I’ve found that the days with the worst weather predications can make the most beautiful backgrounds. But we were fighting the wind the entire time. I think it looks good and gives a nice magazine/editorial look!
