Kentucky Derby Festival has kicked off for 2018, so I thought I would revisit this post from last year about one of our favorite events.
The best time of the year to be a Louisvillian is during Derby season. Last night, Jack and I went to our favorite Derby event (besides the race, of course,) the Balloon Glimmer. There are a lot of events involving balloons during Derby, such as the Balloon Glow and the Great Balloon Race. But this one is my favorite. It takes place at the beautiful waterfront park, with food vendors, live music, and games for the kids. Our favorite part is that you are allowed to roam around with the ballooners and watch them set up the balloons. They all inflate at the same time and Jack loved that they were crashing into each other before the were fully inflated. He also loved watching them fire up their helium tanks to create the glimmer at dusk. Since it was a school night, we left around 915 while the balloons were still going strong. It was so beautiful to see the balloons all lit up on the river front on our drive home. We really had a great time, and I know Jack looks forward to watching the balloons every year.
If you have littles this is a must-see show and admission is free with your Derby pin. You can also watch the Great Balloon Race on Saturday morning (if you’re someone who likes to get up before 7 am on Saturdays.)
